Day 8 – Campus Tour and Literature Survey

By Aayam Raj Shakya

What I Learned

Today, we gathered at the Graves School of Business and Management at 9:30 PM. We went on a campus tour led by Dr. Walters and Michael, who took us to the Department of Health Science, Student Center, gymnasium, cafeteria, and a few other departmental buildings until 11:30 PM. After that, we returned to the Graves Business School building, where Dr. Mack briefly explained the deliverable for Friday: a team presentation video. Each team member must present their accomplishments and challenges for the week and outline tasks for the following week.

After this brief meeting, we headed to our respective labs. I also visited the labs used by Groups 7 and 8 and spoke with their graduate mentor. After our lunch break, my team and I worked together to resolve Ignatius’s PC issue, which had been persisting since day 1. This demonstrated our teamwork and coordination. After that, we worked on the presentation slides due on Friday evening. Personally, I resumed my literature survey, which I had started yesterday; I am scheduled to present this to Mr. Pelumi tomorrow.

Blockers

No issues faced.

Reflection

Today was a laid-back day; we spent most of the morning touring the campus and chatting with other participants about their lives, hobbies, and interests. Dr. Mack briefed us on the weekly team presentation, emphasizing its importance in tracking our accomplishments and areas for improvement over time. Working with my team to resolve Ignatius’s PC issue was rewarding, as it brought us closer together. For the literature survey, I used Overleaf, which I learned during my ongoing research assistantship (on a temporary leave) at the 5G/6G Wireless Communications lab at my home university. Practicing the lit. survey on Overleaf will help me further familiarize myself with difficult LaTeX syntaxes.

I am happy to continue gaining experience in a professional research setting, this time in a different location.
