Day 21 – Presentation prep and more work on codebase
What I Learned
We started the day by gathering in the Earl Graves business building. Dr. Mack briefly discussed our stipend processing, which has been pending for several days. She then talked about Friday’s presentation and agreed to shorten the presentation time from the initial 20 mins to 15 mins. The briefing ended around 10:15 AM, and we were given time to relax in the room until 11 AM. During that time, I helped Grace polish her resume using my template, which she really liked.
After 11 AM, I left for the research lab with my team members. There, I worked on my codebase to add a new custom callback function for plotting metrics, which will be very useful for visualizing my model’s performance. Our substitute mentor, Ms. Oyinkansola, came to visit us. She and I chatted about deep learning stuffs, and she was impressed with my knowledge and experience. I shared my U-Net codebase with her, along with some articles and tutorial posts written by my PhD supervisors that might be useful for her current research project.
After the lunch break, I continued working on my model to look for potential improvements.
Blockers
No issues faced.
Reflection
Today was a relaxing day. I am both nervous and eager for Friday’s presentation. Ignatius had some issues with his PC. Some packages were broken and I went to help him, but couldn’t do much, so I feel a bit bad about that.
At around 3:15 PM, all 4 undergrads and Eneah, our high school teacher, joined a Zoom meeting with our grad mentor Pelumi, who is currently in Canada for a conference. He divided the tasks for Friday’s presentation. I am assigned to talk about the project summary, goals/steps for next week (June 30), and my own accomplishment slides. I will be working with Michelle and Yusrat to design and present the summary and upcoming tasks.
